SSB Constable Tradesman Recruitment 2026 is a major all India recruitment drive announced by Sashastra Seema Bal for Constable level posts in different trades such as Veterinary, Driver, Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter, Carpenter and Nursing Orderly. This recruitment is important for candidates who want a Central Government uniformed job under the Ministry of Home Affairs because the post is in Group C, Non Gazetted, Combatised and Non Ministerial category, and the selected candidates can be posted anywhere in India or even outside the territory of India according to service requirement. The notification clearly states that online applications are invited only through the SSB recruitment system and applications sent by any other mode are not accepted. A total of 827 vacancies have been announced in this notification. Out of these, the highest number of posts is for Constable Driver, while the remaining vacancies are spread across several trades. As per the official vacancy table, there are 34 posts for Constable Veterinary, 553 posts for Constable Driver only for male candidates, 41 posts for Constable Gardener, 5 posts for Constable Water Carrier, 25 posts for Constable Cobbler, 41 posts for Constable Tailor, 74 posts for Constable Washerman, 43 posts for Constable Barber, 3 posts for Constable Waiter, 7 posts for Constable Carpenter and 1 post for Constable Nursing Orderly. Reservation is available for UR, EWS, OBC, SC and ST categories as per the official matrix. The notice also mentions that 10 percent vacancies are reserved for Ex Servicemen on horizontal basis, and if suitable Ex Servicemen are not available then such vacancies may be filled by non Ex Servicemen candidates according to the rules mentioned in the notice.

For Constable Driver, the candidate should have passed 10th class and must possess a valid Heavy Vehicle Driving Licence. For Constable Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber and Waiter, the minimum requirement is matriculation or equivalent along with trade experience, or a one year certificate course from a recognized ITI or vocational institute with at least one year experience in the trade, or a two year diploma from a recognized industrial training institute in the trade or similar trade. These candidates must also qualify the trade test. For Constable Carpenter, matriculation or equivalent is required along with trade experience or recognized certificate or diploma in the respective trade, and the candidate must qualify the trade test. For Constable Nursing Orderly, the candidate should have passed 10th class, must have a First Aid certificate from St. John's Ambulance Organization or Red Cross Society of India, and should have at least one year working experience as a Nursing Orderly in a minimum fifty bedded hospital or institution recognized by the Central or State Government.

The age limit is also post wise. Candidates for Constable Veterinary, Driver and Nursing Orderly should generally be between 18 and 27 years. Constable Carpenter candidates should be between 18 and 25 years. Candidates for Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber and Waiter should generally fall in the 18 to 23 years age group. The notification provides age relaxation for eligible categories. SC and ST candidates get 5 years relaxation, OBC candidates get 3 years relaxation, and Ex Servicemen as well as some other eligible categories get relaxation according to Central Government rules. Departmental candidates with continuous Central Government service are also covered by separate provisions mentioned in the official advertisement. Since age is calculated with reference to the closing date of application, candidates should match their date of birth carefully with the post they are applying for.

The application fee is simple and clearly defined in the notification. UR, EWS and OBC candidates have to pay Rs. 100 as examination fee. SC, ST, Ex Servicemen and female candidates are exempted from fee payment. The fee is non refundable and the official instructions mention online modes such as net banking, credit card, debit card and UPI. Candidates should avoid multiple payments against a single registration number because the notification warns that duplicate payments are at the candidate's own risk and no unnecessary refund claims should be expected outside the rule position.

The Physical Efficiency Test for male candidates is a 4.8 kilometre race in 24 minutes, while for female candidates it is a 2.4 kilometre race in 18 minutes. Ex Servicemen are exempted from PET but must appear in other applicable stages. After PET and PST, qualified candidates appear in a written examination. The notification states that the written test will be a Computer Based Test of 2 hours duration and 100 marks, containing 100 objective questions from General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning and General English or General Hindi. Minimum qualifying marks are 50 percent for UR, EWS, OBC and Ex Servicemen, and 45 percent for SC and ST candidates. Depending on the post, further trade test, documentation and detailed medical examination are also part of the recruitment process. The online application process started on 21 March 2026 and, as widely reported in line with the Employment News schedule, the closing date is 20 April 2026. Candidates should apply only for one post because the notification specifically says that a candidate can apply for only one post among the advertised trades.
